Removing an old lining on stainless steel require specialty abrasives due to the hardness of stainless steel. It is very critical to measure the surface profile and we do a battery of tests using ASTM and NACE standards to test the profile of the blasted surface before a new tank lining or tank coating is applied.
We offer coatings and linings for steel and concrete water tanks of all shapes and sizes.
Choosing Abrasives for Sand Blasting Tank Linings and Coatings
We provide a scientifically engineered abrasive to match your situation. We start by evaluating what you need removed and what needs to be kept. We evaluate Mohr Hardness values of abrasives against the substrate we are sandblasting then select an abrasive such as brown fused aluminum oxide, white aluminum oxide, garnet, walnut, cob and others which come in various grits and sizes.
Scientific tests performed include:
- Environmental conditions: dew point & substrate temperature
- Chemical tests: pH, chlorides, CSN
- Moisture meters
- Surface Profile Gauge: ASTM D4417, NACE SP0287 -2016, “Field Measurement of Surface Profile of Abrasive Blast-Cleaned Steel Surfaces Using a Replica Tape”
- Adhesion Tests: ASTM D4541/D7234
- Coating Thickness: ASTM D6132
- Barcol Hardness: ASTM D2538
As you can see this steel tank lining had heavy rust before sandblasting services were performed.
After Sandblasting It’s Time to Apply Tank Lining
With the use of our Plural Component Coating System we are able to use fast setting tank coatings for a fast return to service. This system allows for application of coatings in less than 24 hours.
